Your Host

My name is Field and by trade, I am a Scenic artist and Props builder for Theatrical productions.  I'm also an enthusiastic costumer.  I'm currently in the process of launching an online store for my custom made tribal dance belts and imported tribal jewelry.

My first bellydance instructor was Denise Mireau, who comes from a Theatre background as well.  We met in 2004 while building props together for the Disney's Lion King stage productions.  Upon seeing her perform I was struck by the fluidity and gracefulness of her movements and I became a regular attendant in her various classes.

The first time I saw Valizan and Shades of Araby perform in 2007 became a pivotal moment for me.  Suddenly I felt like a little kid thinking “I wanna be like THEM when I grow up!”  The ATS dance form and costuming fascinates me like nothing has before.  I have been enthusiastically attending Valizan's classes at BellyUpBellyDance studio in Oakville ever since.

I also have the pleasure of performing with the BellyUp student ATS troupe, Tribe Maya Fire.  We appear regularly at community events, multicultural festivals, recitals and Haflas.  We're also pretty thrilled to have been selected to perfom on the Main Stage of the 2010 International Bellydance Conference of Canada.

In the fall of 2009 I travelled to Milwaukee to receive my ATS General Skills Certification from Carolena Nericcio and Megha Gavin.  In October of 2010 I will have the pleasure of studying with them again during their weekend intensive at BellyUp.  Other dance workshops I've taken include instructors such as Aisha Ali, Bozenka, Nath Keo, Aida Nour, Tito Seif and Amy Sigil at the 2008 International Bellydance Conference of Canada, Audra of the Dark Side studio and Lopa Sarkar of Bollywood Grooves.

This ATS Dance Holiday project is quite possible the most exciting idea I've ever had!  I envision a group of strangers gathering together to bond as friends through our common love of the dance.  Set against the backdrop of an exotic location in a fascinating culture, it has all the makings of an unforgettable event. I am thrilled that Valizan has agreed to be an integral part of it.  Please join us for the adventure!
